Lots of goals at Brooks!

A Wednesday afternoon full bus ride to Brooks, along with boys’ 3rds basketball. 45 minutes before departure, we learned that goalie Lena Aloisie was under the weather and on her way home. What to do? A varsity goalie? 6 v. 6 with shooter tutors as goalies? Borrow a Brooks goalie? Put pads on one of our own players? And that latter was the solution. Kristin Qin stepped up, donned some Brooks equipment, and tested the water, or ice. She was fantastic, making several beautiful saves. She was most comfortable on her knees with pads splayed to the sides, and skootching her way across the mouth of the net as needed while she followed the play. Her teammates rose to the challenge and peppered the Brooks goalie, with Lauren Ash scoring five, Eliza Brooks adding another four, and Sofia Hubball netting one. A high-scoring hockey game - yes! - we are getting used to this! It is fun watching this team play, as they get better and better with each practice and period. We host BB&N on Saturday.
